I’ve just taken pregnancy tests and my first prenatal visit will be at 6 weeks. Is it normal to be monitoring hCG somehow? Or do most women not check it before that first visit? I find myself taking tests just to watch the pink line and make sure it’s getting darker or staying dark.
Edited to say: I realize pregnancy test sticks only detect hCG at a small threshold, I’m just wondering whether it’s usual to go get blood drawn before the first prenatal visit. Feels like everyone knows what their hCG levels are on here, even early on in their pregnancies, before the six week mark.

I did two blood draws at my primary doctor to make sure my levels were going up prior to my first OB appointment.

When I went in for my first appointment is when they had me go do blood work. So your doctor’s office might do the same.
It’s useless to take keep taking pregnancy tests as they’re going to continue to say positive since you have HCG in your urine.
Even IF you were to miscarry the test would stay positive for a while. It took me 2-3 months for my HCG levels to get to back down to 0 after I had a miscarriage.

You can’t monitor hcg levels with urine tests, only blood tests.

If it’s your first pregnancy or you have no history of pregnancy loss or first trimester complication, your doctor will most likely not order an hcg blood test. They’re not as common as people on this app make it seem!

I didn't have my hcg tested at all. Had an ultrasound at the fertility clinic at 6 weeks, then another to confirm with my regular gynecologist at 7 weeks. I had a huge bout of anxiety at 8 weeks and asked for an extra ultrasound, but never had my hcg checked.

I only had mine tested due to having an autoimmune disease. I lost my first pregnancy so they monitored my second one closer but it’s not the norm!

I took two strip tests, then a digital that told me I was 4w, then one blood test to check hcg levels. That was it.
